For most triathletes, myself included, racing at the World Championship in Kona is a dream.
For those of us who are not capable of qualifying for the race, the lottery is the next best thing to get your shot at the chance of a lifetime! This year the date the lottery opens is Oct. 1, so mark your calendar!
The stakes are high: only 150 spots are available to US citizens. You can increase your odds by joining the Passport Club, a booster organization for Ironman.
For the purpose of the lottery, 100 of the 150 spots are being drawn from Passport club members, the remaining 50 are picked from at-large lottery applicants AND any “unselected passport members”.
The lottery closes on February 28, 2010; winners are scheduled to be announced on Wednesday April 15, 2010.
